Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 244:4

'Abdullah ibn Muhammad narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Mushir narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr, from Abu Salamah, from 'Amr ibn al-'As, who said: I did not see Quraysh intend to kill the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) except on the day they conspired against him while they were sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) was praying at the Maqam (Station of Ibrahim). 'Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt stood up to him, placed his garment around his neck, and pulled it until he fell to his knees. The people shouted, and they thought he was being killed. He said: Abu Bakr came running until he took the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) by his upper arms from behind him, while he was saying: "Do you kill a man for saying, 'My Lord is Allah'?" Then they turned away from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) stood up, and when he finished his prayer, he passed by them while they were sitting in the shade of the Ka'bah. He said: "O assembly of Quraysh, by the One in whose hand is my soul, I have not been sent to you except with slaughter," and he gestured with his hand toward his throat. Abu Jahl said to him: "O Muhammad, you were not one to be ignorant." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "You are one of them."
