Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 152:57

Continuation of the Musnad of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA)

Hadith 152:57

And from Abdullah, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: "The hands are three: the hand of Allah, the Exalted, is the uppermost; the hand of the giver is the one that follows it; and the hand of the asker is the lowermost until the Day of Resurrection. So abstain from asking and from requesting as much as you are able. If you are given something—or he said: 'something good'—then let it be seen upon you. And begin with those whom you support, and give from the surplus, and you shall not be blamed for abstinence."
