Hadith 152:89
Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Zayd ibn Wahb, from Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said—and he is the truthful, the believed: "Verily, the creation of one of you is gathered in the womb of his mother for forty days, then he becomes a clinging clot for the like of that, then he becomes a chewed lump for the like of that. Then Allah sends the angel with four words: his provision, his deed, his lifespan, and whether he is wretched or happy. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, verily one of you performs the deeds of the people of Paradise until there is nothing between him and it but a cubit, then that which was written for him in the Book overtakes him, so he performs the deeds of the people of the Fire and enters it. And verily one of you performs the deeds of the people of the Fire until there is nothing between him and it but a cubit, then that which was written for him in the Book overtakes him, so he performs the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters it."
