Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 154:121

A man asked Ibn Umar, "How did you hear the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) speak regarding the private conversation (al-najwa)?" He said: "He used to say: 'The servant will draw near to his Lord, and He will place His shelter (kanaf) over him and make him confess, saying: "Did you do such-and-such? Did you do such-and-such?"' He said: 'He will say: "Yes, O my Lord."' He said: 'Then He will say: "I concealed it for you in the world, and I forgive it for you today." Then he will be given the record of his good deeds, and he will say: "Here, read my record!"' (Al-Haqqah). He said: 'As for the hypocrites, it will be called out: "These are the ones who lied against their Lord. Unquestionably, the curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers."'" (Hud).
