Zuhayr narrated to us, Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, he said: I heard Yunus narrating from al-Zuhri, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Hunaydah, from Ibn Umar, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When Allah intends to create a soul, the angel of the wombs says, turning aside: 'O Lord, male or female?' So He says [what He says], and Allah decrees His command. Then he says: 'O Lord, wretched or happy?' So Allah decrees His command. Then He writes between his eyes what he is to encounter, even the calamity that will befall him."
