Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 154:29
Continuation of the Musnad of Abdullah ibn Umar (RA)
Hadith 154:29
Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Ismail bin Ulayyah narrated to us, from Layth, from Abd al-Malik, from Ata, who said: Ibn Umar said: A time came upon us when we did not consider any one of us more entitled to dinars and dirhams than his Muslim brother. Until it reached this point lately, and it became such that dinars and dirhams are more beloved to one of us than his Muslim brother. And I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "When people become stingy with dirhams and dinars, trade by *al-inah* (a form of usurious transaction), follow the tails of oxen (i.e., become preoccupied with agriculture), and abandon jihad, Allah will send upon them a humiliation that He will not remove from them until they return to their religion."
