Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 154:5

A man asked the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, about the night prayer, and I was between them. He said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Two by two. If you fear the morning, then pray one rak'ah, and two rak'ahs before the dawn prayer."
