Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 150:361

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, from Sadaqah ibn Sa'id, from Jami' ibn 'Umayr, that his mother and his maternal aunt entered upon 'A'ishah and said: "O Mother of the Believers, how would one of you act if she were menstruating?" She said: "She would fasten an izar (waist wrapper) upon herself, then the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, would embrace her abdomen and what was above that." They said: "How does she perform ghusl (ritual bath)?" She said: "She pours [water] over her hands, then she cleanses her private parts, then she strikes the ground with her hand, then she pours [water] over her head three times." She said: "As for us, we would pour five times because of the braids." They said: "Then tell us about 'Ali." She said: "What is it that you ask about a man who placed his hand in a position from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, such that his soul flowed into his hand, so he wiped his face with it? And they differed regarding his burial, so he said: 'The most beloved of places to Allah is the place where His Prophet was taken [in death].'" They said: "Then why did you go out against him?" She said: "A matter that was decreed. I would have wished that I could have ransomed it with everything upon the earth."
