Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 111:18

Abu Ya'la informed us, he said: It was read to Bishr ibn al-Walid, Abu Yusuf informed you, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Isma'il ibn Umayyah, from 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, from Ibn 'Abbas, that he said: Najdah wrote to him asking him: Does the slave have a share in the spoils of war? And did women used to attend war with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)? And when does the share in the spoils of war become obligatory for the boy? And about the share of the near relatives (dhawi al-qurba). He said: So Ibn 'Abbas wrote to him that the slave has no right to the spoils of war, but he is given a gift (radkh). And he wrote that women used to go out with the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to treat the wounded, and that they are given a gift. And that the boy has no right to the spoils of war until he reaches puberty. And he wrote to him regarding the share of the near relatives that 'Umar offered us to marry off our unmarried ones from it and to pay off our debts from it, but we refused that to him unless he surrendered it all, and he refused that.
