Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 111:19

Abu Ya'la informed us, he said: It was read to Bishr, Abu Yusuf informed you, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Abu Ja'far, al-Zuhri, and Isma'il ibn Umayyah, from Yazid ibn Hurmuz, that he said: I wrote the letter of Ibn Abbas to Najdah. You wrote to me asking me about the killing of children, and that the scholar of Musa killed a child, while the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade the killing of children. If you knew about children what the scholar of Musa knew, it would be so. And you wrote asking whether women used to attend war with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and whether a portion was given to them, and whether a share of the spoils was assigned to them. They used to attend war with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and a portion was given to them, but a share of the spoils was not assigned to them. Isma'il added in the hadith: And you wrote asking me about slaves, whether they used to attend war with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and whether a share of the spoils was assigned to them. He wrote to him regarding the slaves just as he wrote regarding the women. And you wrote asking me about the orphan, when does he exit from orphanhood? When he reaches puberty, he exits from orphanhood, and a share of the spoils is assigned to them.
