Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 111:98

Hadaba narrated to us, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, Ali bin Zaid narrated to us, from Yusuf bin Mahran, from Ibn Abbas, and more than one from al-Hasan, they both said: When the Verse of Debt was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, the first one to deny was Adam. Indeed, when Allah created him, He wiped his back and brought forth from it those who were to be created. He began to present them to him, and he saw among them a man who was shining. He said: 'O my Lord, which of my sons is this?' He said: 'This is your son, David.' He said: 'O my Lord, how long is his lifespan?' He said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'O my Lord, increase his lifespan.' He said: 'No, unless you increase it from your own lifespan.'" Adam’s lifespan was one thousand years, so he gifted him forty years from his own lifespan. Allah wrote a document regarding it and had the angels bear witness to it. When Adam was dying, the angels came to take his soul. He said: "Indeed, there remain forty years of my lifespan." They said: "You have gifted them to your son, David." He said: "I did not do so." So Allah brought forth the document, and the angels bore witness to it. He completed one thousand years for Adam and completed one hundred years for David.
