Hadith 109:127

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Yahya bin Sa’id narrated to us, from Ja’far bin Muhammad, from his father, who said: We came to Jabir bin Abdullah while he was at Banu Salama, and we asked him about the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stayed in Medina for nine years and did not perform Hajj. Then he announced to the people that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was performing Hajj that year. A great number of people arrived in Medina, all of them seeking to follow the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and to do what he did. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out when five nights remained of Dhu al-Qi'dah. We set out until, when we reached Dhu al-Hulayfah, Asma’ gave birth to Muhammad bin Abi Bakr. She sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asking, "What should I do?" He said: "Perform ghusl, bind yourself with a cloth, then enter into ihram." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out until, when his she-camel stood with him at al-Bayda’, he began the talbiyah with the declaration of oneness: "Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk, inna al-hamda wa al-ni’mata laka wa al-mulk, la sharika lak" (Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise and grace are Yours, and the dominion; You have no partner). The people also recited the talbiyah, and the people were adding [phrases like] "Dhu al-Ma’arij" and similar words, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was listening and did not say anything to them. I looked as far as my sight could reach in front of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), [seeing] riders and pedestrians, and behind him the same, and to his right the same, and to his left the same. Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was among us, the Quran was being revealed, and he knew its interpretation. Whatever he did, we did. He said: We set out, intending nothing but Hajj. When we reached the Kaaba, the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) touched the Black Stone, then he performed ramal (brisk walking) for three [laps] and walked for four. When he finished, he went to the Station of Ibrahim and prayed two rak'ahs behind it, and he recited: "And take the Station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer" (Al-Baqarah). He said: He recited in them [the two rak'ahs] the Surah of Oneness (Al-Ikhlas) and "Say, O disbelievers" (Al-Kafirun). Then he touched the Stone, then went out to al-Safa. Then he said: "We begin with what Allah began with," and he recited: "Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah" (Al-Baqarah). He ascended al-Safa until, when he looked at the House, he said "Allahu Akbar" and said: "There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner. To Him belongs the dominion, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is over all things competent. There is no god but Allah alone; He fulfilled His promise, aided His servant, and defeated the confederates alone." Then he supplicated and returned to these words. Then he descended, and when his feet reached the bottom of the valley, he performed ramal, and when he ascended, he walked. When he reached al-Marwah, he ascended it, and when he looked at the House, he said upon it what he said upon al-Safa. When he was at the seventh [lap] at al-Marwah, he said: "O people, if I had known beforehand what I know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animals, and I would have made it an 'Umrah. So whoever does not have a sacrificial animal with him, let him exit ihram and make it an 'Umrah." So all the people exited ihram. Suraqa bin Ju'sham said: "O Messenger of Allah, is this for our year only or forever?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) interlaced his fingers and said: "Rather, forever," three times. The 'Umrah entered into the Hajj until the Day of Resurrection. Ali arrived from Yemen and brought with him sacrificial animals, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had brought sacrificial animals with him from Medina. Fatima had exited ihram, wore dyed clothes, and applied kohl. She said: "My father ordered me [to do this]." Ali disapproved of that. Ja'far said: Jabir bin Abdullah did not mention this part. Ali said: In Kufa, I set out, seeking to verify with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) what Fatima had mentioned. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, Fatima has exited ihram, worn dyed clothes, and applied kohl, and she said that my father ordered her to do so." He said: "She spoke the truth, she spoke the truth, she spoke the truth. I ordered her to do it." Then he returned to the hadith of Jabir and said: [The Prophet] said to Ali: "With what did you enter into ihram?" He said: I said: "O Allah, I enter into ihram with what Your Messenger entered into ihram, and I have the sacrificial animals with me." He said: "Then do not exit ihram." He said: The total number of sacrificial animals that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) brought and that Ali brought was one hundred. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) slaughtered sixty-three with his own hand, and he gave [the rest] to Ali, who slaughtered the remainder. He made him a partner in his sacrifice, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered a piece of meat from every camel to be put in a pot, and they both ate from its meat and drank from its broth. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have slaughtered here, and Mina in its entirety is a place of slaughter." Then he stood and said: "I have stood here, and Arafat in its entirety is a place of standing." And he stood at Muzdalifah and said: "I have stood here, and Muzdalifah in its entirety is a place of standing."
