Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 109:176

Ibrahim narrated to us, Isma'il bin Ibrahim narrated to us, al-Hajjaj bin Abi 'Uthman narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: Al-Tufayl bin 'Amr al-Dawsi came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in Makkah. He said to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "Come to a fortified stronghold, and [a people of] number and equipment." Abu al-Zubayr said: "Al-Daws is a stronghold on the top of a mountain; it cannot be reached except by [a path] like a sandal strap." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him: "Is there with you [the support of] those who are behind you?" He said: "I do not know." He said: "So he turned away from him, because of what Allah had stored for the Ansar." When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came to Madinah, al-Tufayl bin 'Amr came as an emigrant to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and with him was a man from his clan. That man suffered a severe fever, so he went out and took a blade and cut his finger joints, and he bled until he died. He was buried. Then he came to al-Tufayl bin 'Amr in what a sleeper sees at night, in a good appearance, while he was covering his hands. Al-Tufayl said: "So-and-so?" He said: "Yes." He said: "How did you fare?" He said: "My Lord did well by me; He forgave me for my emigration to His Prophet." He said: "Then what did you do with your hands?" He said: "My Lord said: 'We will not fix of you what you corrupted of yourself.'" Al-Tufayl narrated his dream to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), so he raised his hands and said: "O Allah, and for his hands, forgive! O Allah, and for his hands, forgive! O Allah, and for his hands, forgive!"
