Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 109:190

Sufyan ibn Waki' narrated to us, Hafs narrated to us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Sulayman ibn Musa, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, who said: Permission was granted to them regarding the cutting of palm trees, then it was made strict for them. So they came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there sin upon us for what we cut, or is there [sin] upon us for what we left?" Then Allah revealed: "Whatever you have cut of [the] palm trees or left them standing on their trunks, it was by permission of Allah." (Al-Hashr: 5)
