Sufyan narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn 'Ubayd al-Azdi, al-Fadl al-Raqashi narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) stood as a preacher on the day of Friday and said: "Perhaps a man is reached by Friday while he is at a distance of a mile from Medina, yet he does not attend the Friday [prayer]." He then said in the second [instance]: "Perhaps a man is reached by Friday while he is at a distance of two miles from Medina, yet he does not attend it." And he said in the third [instance]: "Perhaps he is at a distance of three miles from Medina, yet he does not attend the Friday [prayer], and Allah seals his heart."
