Hadith 109:221
Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq informed us, from ‘Asim ibn ‘Umar ibn Qatada, from Mahmud ibn Labid, from Jabir, who said: A man came with an egg-sized piece of gold to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), which he had obtained in one of the military expeditions. He said, "Take it, O Messenger of Allah, as charity, for by Allah, I do not possess anything else besides it." He turned away from him. Then he came to him from his left side and said the same thing. Then he came to him from in front of him and said the same thing. He said, "Bring it," while angry. He took it and threw it at him with a throw that, had it hit him, would have wounded him or injured him. Then he said, "One of you comes with all of his wealth and gives it as charity, then sits down begging from the people. Verily, there is no charity except from what is left after sufficiency."
