Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 109:307

Ibn Numayr narrated to us, Muhadir narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: "An expeditionary force will be sent, and it will be said to them: 'Is there among you anyone who accompanied Muhammad?' It will be said: 'Yes.' So he will be sought out and found, and he will seek victory [in prayer], and it will be opened for them. Then another expeditionary force will be sent, and it will be said: 'Is there among you anyone who saw the companions of Muhammad?' He will be sought out, but he will not be found, even if he were beyond the sea, you would have come to him. Then there will remain a people who recite the Qur'an, but they do not know what it is."
