Hadith 109:41
Bishr ibn al-Walid al-Kindi narrated to us, Musawwar ibn al-Salt narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir narrated to us, from Jabir, from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) that he said: "Every act of kindness is a charity. Whatever a man spends on his family and his wealth is written for him as a charity. Whatever he protects his honor with is a charity for him." He said: "And every expenditure of a believer in other than disobedience, Allah is its guarantor of replacement, except for expenditure on a building." Musawwar said: Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir said: So we said to Jabir ibn Abdullah, "What did he mean by his saying, 'And whatever a man protects his honor with'?" He said: "He gives to the poet and the one with a sharp tongue." Jabir said: "As if he is saying: the one whose tongue is guarded against."
