Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 163:1

'Abd al-A'la ibn Hammad al-Narsi narrated to us, Wahib ibn Khalid narrated to us, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stayed for nine [years] in Medina without performing Hajj. Then he announced to the people the departure. When he reached Dhu al-Hulayfah, he prayed at Dhu al-Hulayfah. Asma bint Umays gave birth to Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr and sent word to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). He said: "Perform ghusl, bind yourself with a cloth, and enter into ihram." He said: So she did. When the chest of the Messenger of Allah’s (ﷺ) mount settled on the back of al-Bayda’, he entered into ihram, and we entered into ihram with him. We knew nothing but Hajj, and for it we went out. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was among us, and the Quran was being revealed to him, and he knew its interpretation, and he only did what he was commanded to do. Jabir said: I looked in front of me, behind me, to my right, and to my left, as far as my sight could reach, and the people were walking and riding. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to recite the talbiyah, saying: "Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk, inna al-hamda wa al-ni'mata laka wa al-mulk, la sharika lak" (Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise and blessings are Yours, and the dominion; You have no partner). When we arrived in Mecca, he began by touching the Corner (the Black Stone), then he performed sa'i (trotted) for three circuits and walked for four. When he finished his tawaf, he went to the Maqam (Station of Ibrahim) and said: "And take from the station of Ibrahim a place of prayer" [Quran 2:125]. He prayed two rak'ahs behind the station of Ibrahim. Ja'far ibn Muhammad said: My father said: He used to recite in them "al-Tawhid" (Surah al-Ikhlas) and "Qul ya ayyuha al-kafirun" (Surah al-Kafirun) and "Qul huwa Allahu ahad" (Surah al-Ikhlas). He said: And he did not mention that from Jabir. Jabir said: Then he went to the Corner and touched it. Then he went to al-Safa and said: "We begin with what Allah began with: 'Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah'" [Quran 2:158]. He ascended al-Safa until the House (the Kaaba) became visible to him, and he said "Allahu Akbar" three times, and said: "La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulk wa lahu al-hamd, yuhyi wa yumit, bi-yadihi al-khayr, wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir" (There is no god but Allah alone, He has no partner, to Him belongs the dominion and to Him belongs the praise, He gives life and causes death, in His hand is all good, and He is over all things competent) three times, and he supplicated during that. Then he descended from al-Safa and walked until his feet descended into the bottom of the valley, then he trotted until his feet ascended in the bottom of the valley, then he walked to al-Marwah. He ascended al-Marwah until the House became visible to him, and he said the same as he had said on al-Safa. He performed seven circuits. Then he said: "Whoever does not have the sacrificial animal (hady) with him, let him exit ihram, and whoever has the sacrificial animal with him, let him remain in his state of ihram. For if I did not have the sacrificial animal with me, I would have exited ihram. And if I had known at the beginning of my affair what I know now, I would have entered into ihram for 'Umrah." He said: Ali arrived from Yemen, and the Prophet (ﷺ) said to him: "With what did you enter into ihram, O Ali?" He said: I said, "O Allah, I enter into ihram with that which Your Messenger has entered into ihram." He said: "For I have the sacrificial animal with me, so do not exit ihram." Ali said: I entered upon Fatimah, and she had applied kohl and was wearing dyed garments. I said: "Who ordered you to do this?" She said: "My father ordered me." Ali said: I used to say in Iraq, so I went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) complaining about Fatimah, seeking confirmation of what she had said. He said: "She spoke the truth; I ordered her." He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) slaughtered one hundred camels; he slaughtered sixty-three of them with his own hand, and Ali slaughtered the remainder. Then he took a piece from every camel, and they were all cooked, and they ate from the meat and drank from the broth. Suraqah ibn Malik ibn Ju'sham said: "O Messenger of Allah, is this for this year of ours or forever?" He said: "Rather, it is forever. The 'Umrah has entered into the Hajj," and he interlaced his fingers.
