Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 163:14

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Jami', from Abu al-Tufayl, who said: Fatima came to Abu Bakr and said, "O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah, did you inherit from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, or did his family?" He said, "Rather, his family." She said, "Then what is the matter with the share of the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'If Allah provides a provision to a prophet, then takes his soul, He makes it for the one who takes charge after him.' So I saw fit to return it to the Muslims." She said, "You and the Messenger of Allah know best."
