Hadith of Abdullah ibn Hawalah (RA)
Hadith 200:1
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, from Mu'awiyah ibn Salih, who said: Damrah ibn Habib narrated to me, he said: Zaghb ibn fulan al-Azdi narrated to me, he said: Abdullah ibn Hawalah al-Azdi stayed with us. I said to him: "It has reached me that a stipend of two hundred [dirhams/dinars] was allotted to you every year, but you did not accept it." He said: So he said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent us around Medina so that we might obtain spoils, but we returned and did not obtain anything. He recognized the exhaustion in us, so he said: 'O Allah, do not entrust them to me, for I would be weak regarding them; and do not entrust them to themselves, for they would be incapable of [managing] it; and do not entrust them to the people, for they would withhold [what is due] from them.'"
