Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 243:1

Wahb ibn Baqiyyah al-Wasiti narrated to us, Khalid informed us, from Isma'il ibn Hammad ibn Abi Sulayman, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu 'Ubaydah, from 'Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach us the *Khutbat al-Hajah* (the sermon of need), and he would say: "Indeed, all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him and seek His help, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our souls and from the consequences of our deeds. Whomever Allah guides, there is none to misguide him, and whomever He misguides, there is none to guide him. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger." Abu 'Ubaydah said: And I heard my father, Musa, saying: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say: "If you wish to connect your sermon with verses from the Quran, you say: 'Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims' [3:102]. 'Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer' [4:1]. 'Fear Allah and speak a word of appropriate justice. He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment' [33:70-71]. Then speak your need."
