Hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (RA)
Hadith 243:76
On the authority of Abu Musa, he said: My companions sent me to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to ask him for mounts for them, as they were in the Army of Hardship, which is the expedition of Tabuk. I said: "O Prophet of Allah, my companions sent me to you so that you might provide them with mounts." He said: "No, by Allah, I will not provide them with anything." I agreed with him while he was angry, and I did not realize it. I returned saddened by the refusal of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and for fear that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) might have felt something against me in his heart. I returned to my companions and informed them of what the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had said. I had not waited but a short while when I heard Bilal calling: "Where is Abdullah ibn Qays?" I answered him, and he said: "Answer the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace); he is calling you." When I came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), he said: "Take these two pairs, and these two pairs, and these two pairs"—for six camels he had purchased at that time from Sa'd—"and go with them to your companions and say: 'Verily, Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, or the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), provides you with these, so ride them.'" Abu Musa said: I went to my companions with them and said: "The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) provides you with these, but by Allah, I will not leave you until some of you go with me to those who heard the statement of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) when I asked him on your behalf and he refused the first time, then gave them to me after that, so that you do not think that I told you something he did not say." They said: "By Allah, you are truthful to us, and we will certainly do what you like." So Abu Musa went with a group of them until they came to those who had heard the statement of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his refusal to them, then his giving them after that, and he narrated to them just as Abu Musa had narrated to them, exactly.
