Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 243:83

Hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (RA)

Hadith 243:83

On the authority of Abu Musa, he said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a military expedition, and we were six men sharing one camel, which we took turns riding. He said: Our feet became worn out, and my feet became worn out, and my toenails fell off. So we used to wrap rags around our feet. He said: It was named the Expedition of Dhat al-Riqa' (the Expedition of the Rags) because of the rags we used to wrap around our feet. Abu Burdah said: Abu Musa narrated this hadith, then he disliked that, and said: "What was I doing mentioning this hadith?" He said this because he disliked that any of his deeds be made public. Abu Usamah said, and another said: "May Allah reward him for it."
