Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 243:93

Hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (RA)

Hadith 243:93

On the authority of Abu Musa, he said: I was with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, staying at al-Ji'ranah, between Makkah and Madinah, and Bilal was with him. A Bedouin man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said to him: "Will you not fulfill for me, O Muhammad, what you promised me?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him: "Rejoice." The Bedouin said to him: "You have given me too much of 'rejoice'." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, turned to Abu Musa and Bilal as if he were angry and said: "This man has rejected the good tidings, so you two accept them." They said: "We accept, O Messenger of Allah." He said: So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, called for a vessel containing water. He washed his hands and his face, and spat into it. Then he said to them: "Drink from it and pour it over your faces and your chests." They took the vessel and did what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had commanded them to do. Then Umm Salamah called to us from behind the curtain: "Save some for your mother from what is in your vessel." So they saved a portion of it for her.
