Hadith of al-A‘sha al-Mazini (RA)
حديث الأعشى المازني
Hadith 204:1
Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddami narrated to us, Abu Ma’shar Yusuf ibn Yazid narrated to us, he said: Sadaqah ibn Taysalah narrated to me, Ma’n ibn Tha’labah al-Mazini—and the tribe is after [that]—narrated to me, he said: Al-A’sha al-Mazini narrated to me, he said: I came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I recited to him: "O King of the people, and the valleys of the Arabs, I encountered a sharp-tongued woman of the sharp-tongued ones. I went out in the month of Rajab seeking food for her, But she left me behind in conflict and war. She broke the covenant and clung to the tail [of the matter], And they are the worst of victors for whoever they defeat." The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, began to recite it [as a proverb] and say: "And they are the worst of victors for whoever they defeat."
