Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 169:1

Hadith of al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 169:1

Al-Hakam ibn Musa narrated to us, Shihab ibn Khirash narrated to us, from Shu’ayb ibn Ruzayq al-Ta’ifi, who said: I was sitting with a man who was called al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi, and he had companionship with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He began to narrate to us, saying: I arrived at the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, as the seventh of seven or the ninth of nine. He gave us permission, so we entered and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have come to you so that you may pray for goodness for us." So he prayed for goodness for us and ordered that we be hosted, and he ordered for us some dates—and the situation at that time was difficult. We remained with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for some days, and we witnessed the Friday prayer with him. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood, leaning upon a bow or—he said—upon a staff. He praised Allah and extolled Him with good, light, and blessed words. Then he said: "O people, you will not be able to [perform] everything you have been commanded to do, but be upright and draw near [to the truth]."
