Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 208:1

Muhammad ibn 'Abbad narrated to us, Hatim narrated to us, Ya'qub ibn 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri narrated to us, he said: Al-Zibriqan ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn Umayyah narrated to me, from his father, from 'Amr ibn Umayyah, he said: 'Uthman ibn 'Affan or 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf passed by a *mirt* (a garment/cloak) and found it expensive. Then he passed by 'Amr ibn Umayyah with it, so he bought it and clothed his wife, Sakhilah bint 'Ubaydah ibn al-Harith ibn al-Muttalib, with it. Then 'Uthman or 'Abd al-Rahman passed by him and said, "What did you do with the *mirt* that you bought?" 'Amr said, "I gave it as charity to Sakhilah bint 'Ubaydah." He said, "Indeed, everything you do for your family is charity." 'Amr said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say that." Then he mentioned what 'Amr said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he said, "'Amr spoke the truth; everything you do for your family is charity for them."
