Hadith of Jadd Hud from the Prophet (SAW)
حديث جد هود عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
Hadith 185:1
Muhammad ibn Sadran Abu Ja'far narrated to us, Talib ibn Hujayr al-'Abdi narrated to us, Hud al-'Asri narrated to us, from his grandfather, who said: While the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was speaking to his companions, he said: "There will emerge upon you from this direction a caravan from the best of the people of the East." Umar ibn al-Khattab stood up and headed in that direction. He met thirteen riders. He welcomed them and drew them near, and said: "Who are the people?" They said: "A people from 'Abd al-Qays." He said: "What brought you to this land? Trade?" They said: "No." He said: "Then are you selling these swords of yours?" They said: "No." He said: "Perhaps you have only come in search of this man?" They said: "Yes." He walked with them, speaking to them, until he looked toward the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said to them: "This is your companion whom you are seeking." The people threw themselves from their mounts; some of them ran, some of them trotted, and some of them walked until they reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). They took his hand and kissed it, and sat with him. Al-Ashajj remained, and he was the youngest of the people. He made the camels kneel and hobbled them, and gathered the people's belongings. Then he came walking with deliberation until he reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He took his hand and kissed it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "You possess two qualities that Allah and His Messenger love." He said: "What are they, O Prophet of Allah?" He said: "Forbearance and deliberation." He said: "Are they traits I was created with, or traits I have acquired?" He said: "Rather, you were created with them." He said: "Praise be to Allah who created me with what Allah and His Messenger love." The people brought some dates they had and began to eat them. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began naming them for them: "This is such-and-such, and this is such-and-such." They said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah, we are not more knowledgeable of their names than you." He said: "Indeed." They said to a man among them: "Feed us from the remainder of what is left in your pouch." He stood up and brought him the *Barniy* (a type of date). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "This is the *Barniy*. Verily, it is among the best of your dates; it is only a medicine, and there is no disease in it."
