Zuhayr ibn Harb narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Murrah, from 'Asim al-'Anazi, from Ibn Jubayr ibn Mut'im, from his father, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) entered the prayer, he would say: "Allah is the Greatest, [He is] the Greatest" (three times), "And praise be to Allah, abundantly" (three times), "Exalted is Allah, morning and evening" (three times). "I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan, from his blowing (nafkh), his prodding (hamz), and his spitting (nafth)." 'Amr said: His blowing is pride, his prodding is epilepsy, and his spitting is poetry.
