Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 241:3

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Ismail bin Ibrahim narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Humayd bin Hilal, from a man from Abd al-Qays who was with the Khawarij, then he left them. He said: They entered a village, and Abdullah bin Khabbab came out terrified, dragging his garment. They said, "Do not be afraid." He said, "By Allah, you have indeed terrified me." They said, "Do not be afraid." He said, "By Allah, you have indeed terrified me." They said, "Are you Abdullah bin Khabbab, the companion of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?" He said, "Yes." They said, "Did you hear a hadith from your father that he would narrate to us from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), that he mentioned a tribulation in which the one sitting is better than the one standing, the one standing is better than the one walking, and the one walking is better than the one running? And he said, 'If you encounter that, then be the Abdullah who is killed.'" Ayyub said, "And I do not know it except that he said, 'And do not be the Abdullah who is the killer.'" They said, "Did you hear this from your father narrating it from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?" He said, "Yes." He said: So they brought him forward to the bank of the river and struck his neck, and his blood flowed as if it were a braided sandal strap. And they ripped open his slave-mother (Umm al-Walad) for what was in her womb.
