Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 235:1

Hadith of a man from Balqayn (SAW)

Hadith 235:1

'Abd al-Wahid ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Budayl ibn Maysarah, from 'Abd Allah ibn Shaqiq, from a man from Balqayn, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was in Wadi al-Qura, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, with what were you commanded?" He said: "I was commanded that you worship Allah, not associating anything with Him, and that you establish prayer and give zakat." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, who are those?" He said: "Those who have incurred [Allah's] anger," meaning the Jews. I said: "Who are those?" He said: "The astray," meaning the Christians. I said: "To whom does the war booty belong, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "For Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, is a share, and for these [people] are four shares." He said: I said: "Is anyone more entitled to the war booty than another?" He said: "No, not even the arrow that one of you takes from his quiver; he is not more entitled to it than anyone else."
