Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 245:25

Hadith of Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (RA)

Hadith 245:25

Al-Hasan ibn Hammad narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Za'idah, from al-Sa'ib ibn Hubaysh al-Kala'i, from Abu al-Shammakh al-Azdi, from a cousin of his who had companionship [with the Prophet], that he entered upon Mu'awiyah and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) saying: "Whoever is put in charge of any affair of the Muslims and closes his door against the poor, the weak, and the needy, regarding their needs and their poverty, Allah the Almighty and Majestic will close the door of His mercy against him on the day of his need and his poverty, at the time when he is most in need of that." I do not know who the speaker was: the Azdi to Mu'awiyah, or Mu'awiyah to the Azdi, "I heard the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)."
