Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 186:1

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from ‘Ata’ ibn al-Sa’ib, from al-Ash’ath ibn ‘Umayr al-‘Abdi, from his father, who said: The delegation of ‘Abd al-Qays came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. When they wanted to depart, they said, "You have memorized everything you heard from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, so ask him about *nabidh* (fermented drink)." They came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are in a land that is unhealthy; nothing suits us there except the drink." He said, "And what is your drink?" They said, "Nabidh." He said, "In what do you drink it?" They said, "In the *naqir* (hollowed-out palm trunk)." He said, "Do not drink from the *naqir*." They left him and said, "By Allah, our people will not agree with us on this." So they returned and asked him, and he said the same thing to them. He said, "Do not drink from the *naqir*, for one of you might strike his cousin with a blow from which he will remain lame until the Day of Resurrection." He said, "They laughed." He said, "What are you laughing at?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, we have already drunk from a *naqir* of ours, and some of us stood up against others and struck him with a blow, and he is lame from it until the Day of Resurrection."
