Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 240:4

Muhammad ibn Bashar narrated to us, he said: Abd al-Wahhab ibn Abd al-Majid narrated to us—he dictated it to us from his book—he said: Muhammad ibn Amr narrated to us, from Abu Salamah and Yahya ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Hatib ibn Abi Balta'ah, from Usamah ibn Zayd, from Zayd ibn Harithah, who said: I went out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on a hot day of the days of Makkah, and he had me ride behind him toward one of the stone altars, and we had slaughtered a sheep for it and cooked it. He said: Then Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl met him, and each of them greeted the other with the greeting of the Jahiliyyah. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "O Zayd, why do I see that your people have become hostile toward you?" He said: "By Allah, O Muhammad, that is not due to any harm I have caused them, but I went out seeking this religion until I arrived at the rabbis of Fadak, and I found them worshipping Allah and associating others with Him. I said: 'This is not the religion I am seeking.' So I went out until I arrived at the rabbis of Ash-Sham, and I found them worshipping Allah and associating others with Him. I said: 'This is not the religion I am seeking.' A sheikh among them said: 'You are asking about a religion that we do not know anyone who worships Allah with, except for a sheikh in Al-Hirah.'" He said: So I went out until I arrived at him. When he saw me, he said: "From whom are you?" I said: "From the people of the House of Allah, from the people of the thorns and the desert." He said: "The religion you are seeking has appeared in your land. A Prophet has been sent; his star has risen, and all those you have seen are in misguidance." I did not perceive anything after that, O Muhammad. He said: And the food mat was brought near to him. He said: He said: "What is this, O Muhammad?" He said: "A sheep we slaughtered for one of the stone altars." He said: He said: "I would not eat from that over which the name of Allah has not been mentioned." Zayd ibn Harithah said: So the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went to the House (the Ka'bah), and we separated. He performed Tawaf around it, and I was with him, and at As-Safa and Al-Marwah. He said: And there were two idols of copper at As-Safa and Al-Marwah, one of them called Isaf and the other Na'ilah, and the polytheists, when they performed Tawaf, would touch them. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Do not touch them, for they are filth." I said to myself: "I will touch them until I see what the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, says." So I touched them, and he said: "O Zayd, did I not forbid you?" He said: And Zayd ibn Amr died, and revelation came down to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Zayd: "He will be resurrected as a nation by himself."
