Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 129:146

Humayd al-Tawil from Anas bin Malik (RA)

Hadith 129:146

Anas was asked: "Did the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) raise his hands in supplication?" He said: "Yes. One day, while he was delivering a sermon to the people on a Friday, it was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the rain has ceased, the land has become barren, and the livestock have perished, so supplicate to Allah.' He raised his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits, and he sought rain, while I did not see a single cloud in the sky. By the time we finished the prayer, even the young man whose house was near was concerned about returning to his family, and it rained continuously until the following Friday. When the second Friday arrived, they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed, the travelers are stranded, and the livestock have perished.' The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) smiled, then gestured with his hand, spreading them apart, and said: 'O Allah, around us and not upon us.' He separated his hands, and the clouds cleared away from Medina."
