Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 110:126

Abu Umar al-Harith ibn Surayj narrated to us, Yahya ibn Zakariyya narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi al-Qasim narrated to us, from Abd al-Malik ibn Sa’id ibn Jubayr, from his father, from Ibn Abbas, who said: Tamim al-Dari and Adi ibn Bada used to travel to Mecca, and a man from the Quraysh, from the Banu Sahm, accompanied them. He died in a land where there were no Muslims, and he entrusted his estate to them. When they arrived, they delivered it to his family, but they concealed a goblet that was with him, made of silver and inlaid with gold. They said, "We did not see it." They were brought to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he made them swear by Allah that they had not concealed anything nor had they come across it, and he let them go. Later, the goblet was found among some people of Mecca. They said, "We bought it from Tamim al-Dari and Adi ibn Bada." The guardians of the Sahmi man stood up and took the goblet, and two men among them swore by Allah, "This goblet is the goblet of our companion, and our testimony is more truthful than their testimony, and we have not transgressed; indeed, we would then be among the wrongdoers." Then these two verses were revealed: "O you who have believed, testimony [should be taken] among you when death approaches one of you..." until the end of the verse.
