The Musnad of Ibn Abbas (RA)

أول مسند بن عباس

Hadith 110:141

Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Aban narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad al-Muharibi narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Zayd, from al-Qa'qa' ibn Hakim, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Wa'lah, who said: I asked Ibn Abbas about selling wine to the people of the Dhimma. He said: A man from Thaqif or from Daws gifted a waterskin [of wine] to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in the year of the Conquest, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to be friends with him during the Jahiliyyah. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to him: "Indeed, Allah has forbidden it." So he whispered to a servant of his who was with him, saying: "Go with it to al-Hazwarah," a village next to Medina, "and sell it." He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "What did you order him to do?" He said: "I ordered him to sell it." He said: "O so-and-so, indeed He who forbade drinking it has forbidden its price." So he ordered it to be poured out.
