Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 110:257

Zuhayr narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Yahya ibn [a certain person], from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, who said: Abu Talib became ill, so the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came to visit him. At his head was the seat of a man, so Abu Jahl stood up and sat in it. They complained about him to Abu Talib and said, "He insults our gods." He said, "O son of my brother, what do you want from this?" He said, "O my uncle, I only want them to utter a word by which the Arabs will submit to them and by which the non-Arabs will pay them the jizya." He said, "And what is it?" He said, "There is no god but Allah." He said, "Do you make the gods one god? Indeed, this is a strange thing."
