Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 110:93

Abu Salih narrated to us, Hagl narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Awza'i, he said: 'Ata' said, on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas: A man sustained a wound during the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), then he experienced a state of major ritual impurity (janabah). He asked for a legal ruling, and he was given a ruling to perform ghusl (full-body washing). He performed ghusl and died. That reached the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), so he said: "They killed him, may Allah kill them! Was not the cure for ignorance the question?"
