Hadith 108:11

Shayban narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, from Abu Bishr, from Sulayman ibn Qays, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, fought [the tribe of] Muharib Khasfah at Nakhla. They saw an opportunity [of negligence] from the Muslims, so a man from among them, who was called Ghawrath ibn al-Harith, came until he stood over the head of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, with a sword. He said, "Who will protect you from me?" He said, "Allah." He said: The sword fell from his hand. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, took the sword and said to him, "Who will protect you from me?" He said, "Be the best of those who take [retribution]." He said, "Do you testify that there is no god but Allah?" He said, "No, but I make a covenant with you that I will not fight you, nor will I be with a people who fight you." He said: So he let him go. He went to his companions and said, "I have come to you from the presence of the best of people." When it was time for Dhuhr or 'Asr, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, commanded the prayer of fear—Abu 'Awanah was in doubt [about which prayer it was]. He said: The people were two groups; a group facing their enemy, and a group praying with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He prayed two rak'ahs with the group that was with him, then they departed and were in the place of those [others]. Then those [others] came and prayed two rak'ahs with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So there were four rak'ahs for the Messenger of Allah, and two rak'ahs for the people.
