Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 108:8

Ibrahim narrated to us, Abd al-Aziz narrated to us, from al-A’mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). And from al-A’mash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Follow the right course and draw near [to perfection], for none of you will be saved by his deeds." We said: "Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Not even I, unless Allah covers me with mercy from Him."
