Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 108:94

Ja'far ibn Mihran narrated to us, he said: 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from 'Abdullah ibn Sahl Abu Layla, from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah, who said: Marhab ibn al-Harith the Jew came out, and he was saying: "Khaybar has known that I am Marhab, fully armed, a tested hero. I thrust at times, and at times I strike, when the lions approach, blazing, and recoil from the assault of the experienced one. My protection is a sanctuary that is not approached. Is there any challenger?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Who is for this one?" Muhammad ibn Maslamah said: "I am, O Messenger of Allah. I am, by Allah, the one whose blood has been shed and who seeks vengeance; they killed my brother yesterday." He said: "Rise to him. O Allah, help him." When each of them drew near to the other, a tree appeared between them. One of them began to take refuge behind it from the other. Every time he took refuge behind it from him, he would cut off with his sword whatever was in front of it, until I saw it, and it was like a standing man, until each of them reached the other. Marhab charged at him and struck him, but he (Muhammad) warded it off with his shield. His sword fell into it and became stuck, and the shield bit into it and held it. Then Muhammad ibn Maslamah struck him and killed him.
