Hadith 108:96

Ja'far narrated to us, 'Abd al-A'la narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, 'Asim ibn 'Umar ibn Qatadah narrated to me, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Jabir, from his father Jabir, who said: There was in front of Hawazin a large-bodied man on a red camel, in his hand a black banner. When he caught up with someone, he would stab him with it, and if something escaped him from in front of him, he would push it from behind him and pierce him. 'Ali ibn Abi Talib and a man from the Ansar headed toward him, both of them wanting him. He said: 'Ali struck the hocks of the camel, so it fell onto its rump. He said: The Ansari struck its leg, and he severed his foot at the middle of his shin, so he fell, and the people fought. When the defeat occurred, Kaladah went out—and he was the brother of Safwan ibn Umayyah, and he was a polytheist on that day during the period which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had set for him—saying, "Sorcery has been invalidated today." Safwan said to him, "Be silent, may Allah break your mouth! For by Allah, that a man from Quraysh should govern me is more beloved to me than that a man from Hawazin should govern me."
