Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 54:1

Daud ibn 'Amr al-Dabbi narrated to us, Isma'il ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us, Usayd ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to me, from Farwah ibn Mujahid, from Sahl ibn Mu'adh al-Juhani, who said: I went on a military expedition with my father during the summer campaign in the time of 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, and 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Malik was over us. We descended upon the fortress of Sinan, and the people constricted the dwellings and blocked the paths. My father stood among the people and said: "O people, I went on a military expedition with the Prophet of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on such-and-such an expedition, and the people constricted the dwellings and blocked the paths. The Prophet of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent a herald, and he called out among the people: 'Whoever constricts a dwelling or blocks a path, there is no Jihad for him.'"
