Hadith 82:1

Muhammad ibn 'Abbad al-Makki narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sulayman ibn Masmul narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Qasim ibn Makhul al-Bahzi, then al-Sulami, saying: I heard my father—and he had witnessed the Pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) and Islam—saying: I set snares for myself at al-Abwa', and a gazelle fell into one of the snares, but it escaped. I went out in pursuit of it and found a man who had taken it. We disputed over it, so we drove it together to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). We found him staying at al-Abwa' under a tree, shading himself with a leather mat. We disputed before him, and he judged between us by dividing it into two halves. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, we encounter camels that have milk, and they are tied (to prevent milking), and we are in need." He said: "Call out for the owner of the camels three times; if he comes, then [do so], otherwise untie their bindings, then drink, then tie them back, and leave for the milk its causes (i.e., enough for the young)." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, stray animals come to us; do we have a reward if we give them water?" He said: "Yes, in every living creature with a burning liver (i.e., a thirsty living being), there is a reward." Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) began to speak to us, saying: "A time will come upon the people when the best wealth will be sheep between the two mosques (Mecca and Medina), eating the trees and frequenting the water. Their owner will eat from their offspring, drink from their milk, and wear from their wool—or he said: their hair—while tribulations will be plunging into the roots of the Arabs. By Allah, you do not care!" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said this three times. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." He said: "Establish the prayer, give the zakat, fast Ramadan, perform Hajj to the House and 'Umrah, be dutiful to your parents, maintain ties of kinship, host the guest, enjoin the good, forbid the evil, and move with the truth wherever it moves."
