Yazid said: Then I met Imran al-Qattan, Abu al-Awwam, and I narrated the hadith to him. So Imran said: Qatadah narrated it to me, from Ata’ ibn Yazid al-Laythi, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace be upon him), with the hadith. Yazid said: Imran erred and was mistaken regarding it. Yazid said: Imran was a Haruri (Kharijite), and he believed in using the sword against the people of the Qibla. When Ibrahim went out to Basra and sought the Caliphate, he appointed him [Imran] over the land tax of the Euphrates. He said: Ibrahim had asked him for a legal opinion (fatwa) regarding something, and Imran gave him a fatwa regarding it. Ibrahim then gave that fatwa to some men, and Imran says: They were all killed.
