Zuhayr narrated to us, Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Shu'bah informed us, from Qatadah, from Anas: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) having drunk wine, so he ordered him to be beaten with two sandals forty times. Then Abu Bakr was brought a man who had drunk wine, and he did the same to him. Then Umar was brought a man who had drunk wine, so he consulted the people regarding that. Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf said, "I see that you should make it the least of the prescribed punishments: eighty." So Umar struck him eighty times.
