Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 115:223
Qatadah from Anas (RA)
قتادة عن أنس
Hadith 115:223
The believers will be gathered on the Day of Resurrection, and they will be anxious because of that. He said: They will say, "If only we sought intercession to our Lord so that He might relieve us from this place of ours." He said: So they will set off until they come to Adam. They will say, "O Adam, you are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His hand, made His angels prostrate to you, and taught you the names of everything. Intercede for us with your Lord so that He might relieve us from this place of ours." He said: He will say, "I am not for that," and he will mention his sin which he committed by eating from the tree. He said: He will say, "But go to Noah, the first messenger whom Allah sent." He said: So they will set off until they come to Noah. He will say, "I am not for that," and he will mention his sin which he committed by asking his Lord for that which he had no knowledge of. He said: He will say, "Go to Abraham, the Friend of the Most Merciful." He said: So they will set off until they come to Abraham. He will say, "I am not for that," and he will mention his three lies: his saying, "Rather, this great one of them did it," his saying, "Indeed, I am ill," and his saying when he came upon the tyrant, "Tell him that I am your brother, for I will tell him that you are my sister, as we are brothers in the Book of Allah; there are no two believers on earth other than us." He said: He will say, "But go to Moses, whom Allah spoke to and gave the Torah." So they will set off until they come to Moses. He will say, "I am not for that," and he will mention his sin which he committed previously. He said: He will say, "But go to Jesus, the servant of Allah, His messenger, His word, and His spirit." He said: So they will set off until they come to Jesus. He will say, "I am not for that, but go to Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, whom Allah has forgiven his past and future sins." He said: So they will come to me, and I will seek permission from my Lord, and I will be granted permission to Him. When I see Him, I will fall prostrate, and He will leave me for as long as Allah wills that He leave me. Then He will say to me, "Raise your head, O Muhammad. Speak, and you will be heard; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted; ask, and you will be given." So I will raise my head and praise my Lord with a praise He teaches me. Then I will intercede, and He will set a limit for me, so I will bring them out of the Fire and admit them into Paradise. Then I will return to my Lord a second time. When I see my Lord, I will fall prostrate, and He will leave me for as long as Allah wills that He leave me. Then it will be said to me, "Raise, Muhammad. Then I will return a third time to my Lord. When I see my Lord, I will fall prostrate, and He will leave me for as long as Allah wills that He leave me. Then it will be said to me, "Raise, Muhammad. Speak, and you will be heard; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted; ask, and you will be given." So I will raise my head and praise my Lord with a praise He teaches me. Then I will intercede, and He will set a limit for me, so I will bring them out of the Fire and admit them into Paradise, until I return to my Lord and it is said for the fourth time. He said: So I will say, "O Lord, there remains in the Fire only those whom the Quran has imprisoned." He said: He will say, "Eternity has become binding upon them." Qatadah said: "It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praised station" (Al-Isra). He said: This is the praised station which Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, promised His Prophet, peace be upon him.
