Qatadah from Anas (RA)

Hadith 115:280

'Ammar also narrated to us, Yusuf narrated to us, Qatadah, 'Abdullah al-Danaj, and Matar al-Warraq all narrated to us, from Anas, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, went out from the door of the house intending to go to the chamber, and he heard a group of people disputing about the Decree (al-Qadar). They were saying, "Did Allah not say such-and-such a verse? Did Allah not say such-and-such a verse?" He said: So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, opened the door of the chamber, and it was as if pomegranate seeds had been burst upon his face [due to his anger]. He said: "Is this what you have been commanded with, or is this what you have been intended for? Those who came before you were only destroyed by the likes of this; they struck the Book of Allah against one another. Allah commanded you with a command, so follow it, and He forbade you, so desist." He said: The people did not hear anyone speak about that after that, until Ma'bad al-Juhani came, and al-Hajjaj seized him and killed him.
